O destino preferido na Região da Capital daqueles que não abrem mão de uma boa trilha é sem duvida o Shenandoah National Park. Com seus quase 775 km2 na majestosa cadeia de montanhas Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah tem mais de 800 km de trilhas, incluindo um trecho de 162 km que se estende por Appalachian National Scenic Trail, percorrendo desde o Maine até a Georgia.
Os visitantes também podem apreciar de carro a espetacular beleza do parque e sua vida selvagem: a famosa estrada Skyline Drive segue o traçado do comprimento do parque e oferece vistas panorâmicas impressionantes em seus inúmeros mirantes.
